Goodbye 2023

I did this a few years ago (in 2018) and it was a lot of fun to reflect on the year we’d had by listing things out. So without further ado, here’s a list of things we did/accomplished/ experienced in 2023 in absolutely no sensical order.

Note that most of the links are to my private Instagram account.

We took a riverboat tour of the canal in Richmond.

I volunteered for the Democratic Party in Chesterfield County and staffed my polling place on Election Day. Of course, we voted as well and many of our preferred candidates won!

My Uncle Ricky (my mom’s oldest brother) passed just a few days before Christmas.

I took 5 work trips: NYC (leadership training, Athens (leadership meetup), Pittsburgh (team meetup), National Harbor (WordCamp US), and Munich (division meetup). It was a bit much! All trips were great, though I’m looking to a fewer next year.

Willa and I took a trip to Raleigh to visit my mom, her husband Bob, and my little sister Loretta with her boyfriend Chris who were visiting from Texas!

We took Willa to see her first movie in at a movie theater – The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

We fostered 11 kittens. We’re ending the year with 3 foster kittens lodging here. We would have had more had I not traveled so much. But we did break 100 total fosters!

Willa celebrated her 4th birthday with a sunny and fun Bluey-themed pool party with a bunch of her closest friends.

Torchy’s Tacos finally made their way to Richmond! We now have 3 locations, one just down the street 😋 Willa is now addicted as much as I am.

Splotchy died after being in heart failure all year.

Willa and I took a trip to DC to visit my mom and Bob for Memorial Day Weekend. We got caught in a massive rain storm while watching the parade!

We went to 2 Richmond Flyers (baseball) games: one went fantastic, the other we experienced torrential rain!

I completed at least 2 escape rooms with friends (we escaped all as usual!).

We hired a sitter (Willa’s old teacher) for the first time and went out bowling with friends.

Anthony and I celebrated our 8th marriage anniversary (16 years together).

I took antibiotics 5 times this year – four times for Strep. My tonsils do not have an eviction notice… yet.

We went bowling as a family a few times. I’m way out of practice, but the food at our local bowling alley is good (despite bowling being so expensive anymore).

We went to see the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (the movie!) with friends.

We had lots of visitors! Our good friend Samantha and her sweet son came to visit in the Spring, my mom and Bob visited a few times, and in the fall Anthony’s dad and his wife Marcela came to visit (and they’re about to visit again).

We went to RVA VegFest, a pumpkin patch, and a kids birthday party all in one weekend – I still feel exhausted just thinking about it.

We went to the Goochland Drive-in theater to see PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. SUCH a great experience.

Willa started pre-k at the same school she’s been at. They are learning so much – she can sound out words a little bit which is exciting and also a bit terrifying.

And now for some of our favorite photos from the year, again in no particular order, some relating to the above mentioned events and some not.
